Mix chicken, sugar, browning, peppers and spices together, rubbing the seasoning into the chicken. Then marinate in the fridge for at least 1 hour.
Separate the chicken from the peppers, onions, garlic, ginger and thyme and brown for 1-2 minutes per side, then remove from the skillet.
Sauté the reserved onions and peppers until softened, then add the chicken back to the skillet along with chicken broth, water, and ketchup.
Simmer for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally, then remove the cover and simmer for an additional 10 minutes, to reduce the gravy.
