I love good kitchen tools and good kitchen gadgets, and I think every home cook deserves quality gear that holds up year after year. Everything on this list is something I use in my very own kitchen, and I think any of it would make a great gift for your family or friends.
I broke the list into a few groups so you can find the right gift for the cook you're shopping for:
For the Cook Who Makes Sunday Dinner
Braises and stews were a big part of my culture growing up, from oxtails and curry goat to big pots of rice and peas on Sunday. One of the things that makes a good braise or stew is a good pot. A heavy pot holds steady heat, sears meat without scorching, and lets everything simmer low and slow until it falls apart. Here are some of my favorites.
Le Creuset Signature 5.5 Qt Round Dutch Oven
This is the Dutch oven people dream about getting under the tree, and it lives up to the hype. The 5.5 quart size is big enough for a family-sized stew or braise but still easy to lift, and the enamel cleans up without a fight. If you want to give a gift that gets passed down, this is it.
Staub 4 Qt Round Cocotte
Staub's lid has little spikes on the underside that drip moisture back onto whatever is cooking, so braises stay juicy instead of drying out. The 4 quart size is perfect for smaller households or side dishes, and it goes straight from the stove to the table without looking like a work pot.
This Staub Dutch oven is my go-to for stews like this. It heats evenly, holds moisture beautifully, and looks gorgeous going from stove to table. It’s a bit of an investment—but one you’ll use for years.
Mercer Culinary 6 Qt Enameled Dutch Oven
This is the pot I used for my Stovetop Beef Stew. It's a great value pick if you want enameled cast iron without the designer price tag. It holds heat well, browns meat nicely, and the 6 quart size has plenty of room for a big batch.
This large Dutch oven is perfect for making a big batch of stew.
Caraway Ceramic Dutch Oven 6.5 Qt
This is the pot I boil the noodles in for my Extra Creamy Baked Mac and Cheese. The 6.5 quart size gives the pasta plenty of room to move around, so it cooks evenly without clumping together. The ceramic nonstick coating wipes clean easily, and it's lighter than cast iron, which makes it a good pick for anyone who struggles with heavy pots.
Lodge 3.6 Qt Enamel Cast Iron Braiser (Caribbean Blue)
I mean, the color is called Caribbean Blue, so of course it made my list. This shallow braiser is perfect for dishes like Brown Stew Chicken, where the chicken browns in a single layer and then simmers right in the sauce. It's also an affordable way to get into enameled cast iron.
Made In 5 Qt Stainless Saucier
The rounded sides on a saucier make it easy to stir without food getting stuck in the corners, and this one is big enough for stews and soups too. It's also a great pot for gravies, roux, and grits, so think Chicken and Sausage Gumbo or a pot of Creamy Grits.
For the Baker
Holiday baking season is the time to show off, and good pans make a big difference. These bake evenly, release cleanly, and turn out cakes and loaves that look as good as they taste.
Nordic Ware Classic Pound Cake Pan
Nordic Ware pans are heavy cast aluminum, so they bake evenly and give you those crisp, defined edges. This classic shape is perfect for a Southern pound cake or a holiday Caribbean Rum Cake.
Nordic Ware Braided Bundt Pan
This pan does the decorating for you. The braided design makes even a simple cake look like it came from a bakery, so it's perfect for something like my Sweet Potato Bundt Cake. Just grease it well and the cake pops right out.
Pullman Loaf Pan with Lid (2 Pack)
A Pullman pan gives you that perfectly square sandwich loaf, and the lid keeps the top flat and the crumb soft. It's a great match for a sandwich-style bread like Jamaican Hard Dough Bread, and the 2 pack means you can bake one loaf to keep and one to give away.
USA Pan 9x13 Cake Pan
Every kitchen needs a good 9x13, and this is the one I'd buy again. The heavy steel bakes evenly, the nonstick finish releases cleanly, and it won't warp in a hot oven. Use it for sheet cakes like Honey Bun Cake, cobblers, and all those holiday casseroles.
Big-Ticket Countertop Gifts
If you want to go big this year, these are the countertop appliances that earn their spot. None of them are the kind of gadget that ends up in the back of a cabinet.
Breville Smart Oven Pro
This countertop oven does almost everything a full-size oven does, just faster and without heating up the whole kitchen. It toasts, bakes, roasts, and even slow cooks, which makes it a lifesaver during the holidays when the big oven is full.
Breville Joule Oven Air Fryer Pro
You all know how much I love my air fryer, and this one is the upgrade. It's a full countertop oven with air frying built in, so you can make crispy dishes like Air Fryer Fried Chicken in bigger batches. The app connection is a nice bonus for the gadget lover on your list.
KitchenAid Fresh Prep Slicer and Shredder Attachment
I shred all the cheese for my baked mac and cheese with this. Freshly shredded cheese melts so much smoother than bagged cheese, which is coated in anti-caking powder, and this attachment gets through a few blocks in seconds. It's a perfect gift for anyone who already has a KitchenAid stand mixer.
Nama J2 Cold Press Juicer
This juicer has a big hopper, so you can load it up with whole fruits and vegetables and walk away while it works. Cold pressing gets more juice out of your produce, and cleanup is quicker than you'd expect. Try it with my Beet Carrot Apple Juice.
Stocking Stuffers
Small gifts can still be useful ones. These are the little tools I grab all the time, and they fit right in a stocking.
Misen Measuring Chef Spoon
You all have bought more of these spoons than almost anything else I've recommended, and I get why. It's a sturdy stainless steel cooking spoon with tablespoon, teaspoon, and milliliter markings engraved right in the bowl, so you can measure, stir, and taste with one tool. It's perfect for seasoning a pot of stew or measuring out a marinade without dirtying a stack of measuring spoons.
Joseph Joseph Twist Whisk
This is the whisk in my Extra Creamy Baked Mac and Cheese video. It twists from a balloon whisk into a flat whisk, which is perfect for getting into the edges of a pot when you're making a cheese sauce or gravy. It also folds flat, so it doesn't take over your utensil drawer.
OXO Good Grips Poultry Shears
A sharp pair of poultry shears makes breaking down a chicken or turkey so much easier. These cut right through bone, the grip is comfortable, and they come apart for cleaning. They're exactly what you need for a Spatchcock Turkey.
Encasa XO Oven Mitts
If you cook with cast iron, you need oven mitts that can handle real heat. These are thick, extra long to protect your forearms, and they look good hanging in the kitchen. They're a practical gift that pairs well with any of the Dutch ovens above.
Howard Butcher Block Conditioner
Wooden cutting boards and spoons last for years if you take care of them, and this conditioner is how you do it. It's a food-safe blend of mineral oil and wax that keeps wood from drying out and cracking. Tuck it in a stocking with a nice cutting board and you've got a thoughtful gift.
