These air fryer calzones are one delicious treat! Since first making them, they are now requested by my family on the regular! They are a perfect alternative to your usual Friday night takeout and they are so simple to make!

Made with store-bought pizza dough, these are crazy easy to make and the air fryer cooks the dough so perfectly, and super quickly!

Have fun using your own favorite fillings, and get these on the table in less than 30 minutes!

Try my Air Fryer Pizza too, and be sure to use my favorite No-Cook Pizza Sauce for the filling!

How To Make Air Fryer Calzones

  • Split the pizza dough into six pieces. Make sure to coat it in flour first, so it does not stick to your hands.
  • Roll each piece of dough out or stretch it with your hands until it is about 6 inches all the way around.
  • Layer the dough with pizza sauce, pepperoni, onion, bell pepper, sausage and mozzarella cheese. Or feel free to use the fillings you prefer.

  • Fold the dough over and seal the edges with a fork.
  • Spray the air fryer with olive oil spray. Place the calzones in the air fryer and spray them with olive oil spray.

What's the best pizza dough to use?

I love the ease and convenience of using store-bought dough to make these air fryer calzones. Most grocery stores will have this either in the chilled or frozen sections. If frozen, make sure that it is fully thawed before using. If you have a favorite homemade pizza dough recipe, you can for sure use that instead, or use a gluten-free recipe if you have an intolerance.

Can you use other fillings?

These folded pizzas are easy to adapt to suit your whole family's taste - I love making them with my kids so they can place in their favorite ingredients! These are meaty and filled with sausage and pepperoni, onion and green bell pepper, and of course, shredded mozzarella! Mix things up with other veggies or meats, basically, if you can put it on pizza you can put it in a calzone!

Can you make them ahead of time?

You can fill and fold the calzones and keep them covered in the fridge for an hour or two before you want to cook them. I wouldn't recommend that you make them further ahead than this as the pizza dough can dry out.

Cooked calzones will keep well in the fridge for up to 4 days and can be reheated in the air fryer at 360F for around 5 minutes until warmed through.

Recipe Notes and Tips

  • Make sure your pizza dough is fully thawed before using. Homemade pizza dough can be made 3 to 4 days ahead of time and be kept in the fridge.
  • Pizza dough is very sticky, so be sure to coat it in flour and roll it out on a floured surface.
  • Don't go too crazy on the fillings, the calzone need to be fully sealed before the are cooked.
  • If you make these in a basket air fryer, you will have to cook them in batches. You can keep them warm in the oven once cooked.

Never again! These turned out horribly....like a wonton. If I would've cooked the 8-10 minutes like recommended I would've been eating it raw. I have a double sided air fryer, one turned out marginally better. But Wil not do again

Oh. My. Goodness. This wasn't the first time I've ever tried to make calzones. It was however the first time they came out great. No exaggeration -- these were better than pizza shop calzones. What an easy recipe -- AND only ten minutes in the air fryer, so I didn't even have to heat up my oven. Each person can choose the ingredients they'd like in their calzone, so everyone's happy. Thanks Tanya!
