I love a good hot dog, but not all hot dog cooking methods are the same. I’ve had them boiled, I’ve had them grilled, I’ve even had them microwaved. Regardless of your preference, I promise you won’t want them any other way after you’ve Air Fried them.

Air Fryer Hot Dogs vs. Grill or Stovetop?

Air Frying hot dogs is so quick and easy, and there are multiple reasons why you should do it:

  • The hot dogs come out crispy on the outside and nice and juicy on the inside. If you time them right in the Air Fryer, there is no need to fear that they will overcook and dry out.
  • It’s super quick and easy. You don't need to preheat the Air Fryer like you would when firing up a grill.
  • You can make a little or a lot. You can prepare hot dogs for the whole family or just one for yourself. Cook and prep time will remain the same.
  • You can crisp both the hot dog and bun in one device.

Ingredients Needed

  • Hot dogs - I prefer all-natural, 100% beef hot dogs. However, any hot dog kind or brand will work. I usually purchase whatever brand I can find on sale.
  • Hot dog buns

How to cook hot dogs in an Air Fryer

First, I like to cut small little slits in my hot dogs. This is not a required step at all. I like to do this to make hot dogs pretty and mimic a grill line. When my hubby makes the hot dogs in the Air Fryer, he does not do this, and it all works fine.

Then, place your hot dogs in the Air Fryer basket. There is no need to spray or anything; the hot dogs won’t stick and will release their natural hot dog oils, whatever that is.

Close the Air Fryer basket and cook at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for 4-6 minutes.

Remove the hot dogs and place them in your hot dog buns. Return hot dogs in the bun and cook at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for 2 more minutes to get a nice crisp on your buns.

Remove and top them with your favorite toppings. Here’s a great list of hot dogs toppings to try. You could also add my hot dog chili,  or you can keep it simple with ketchup, mustard, and sauerkraut, which is my favorite.

I hope you love these hot dogs as much as we do.

Can you cook brats in the air fryer? I will try the hot dog tonight. Don't have any buns so will have to use bread. Thanks for all your help with easy cooking.

Absolutely the only way I cook dogs from now on. I buy hot dogs in bulk and freeze them. I remove them from freezer and cross cut them, then pop em in the air fryer for 8 mins. Perfecto!!! Sometimes I cook em for 6 minutes then add buns and do the sauerkraut & mustard thing. Excellent, thank you

Your tips for AF hot dogs are absolutely the BEST I have seen & tried in a long time! I was a little skeptical about putting the cooked hot dogs in the buns back in for a couple minutes but that was the first thing my husband commented on about what a good idea & how good it tasted!!! I have always overcooked my hot dogs in the AF & yours was perfect! Thank you so very much!

All comments and pictures pertain to skinless hotdogs. Any suggestions for hot dogs with a casing (Koegel Viennas)?

Hi Dean, I've never actually used those kinds of hot dogs but I assume it'll be just a difference in the amount of time needed to cook.

Excellent hot dogs! This was my first time cooking in my air fryer. Normally I don't always heat my buns because of the inconvenience, but this recipe and appliance made it so easy! Thanks!
